The Clay County Community Band Swing Ensemble specializes in music from the
"Big Band Era" of the 30's through the 50's as well as some more
contemporary arrangements. The ensemble performs as a service to the
community, supported by the dues paid by the members themselves and gracious
donations from people and organizations outside of the Band for whom they
perform and who appreciate their efforts.
The Swing Ensemble was formed by its current director, Burk Shields, at the
request of some of the band members who wanted to play a different style of
music, and be able to add a new dimension to our concerts. All of the
members are required to also be members of the Community Band.
The ensemble has performed their version of Big Band Swing music at: The
Clay
County Fair, Christmas On Walnut Street celebration in Green Cove Springs,
Retired Officers Club dinners at NAS Jacksonville, San Jose Yacht Club
Officer Inauguration dinner, Fall and Spring concerts of the Community Band
at Orange Park United Methodist Church, and fund raising activities for
Argyle Elementary School, Lakeside Junior High
School,
Ridgeview High School,
Fleming Island High
School,
and Women For Education in Orange Park.
